It is possible for ignorant people, notwithstanding admoni∣tions, to worship Images, not thinking actually of the Proto∣type a: and in this case their worship is terminate in the verie Image. But it is needlesse for vs to insist vpon the matter of abuse, for if the thing it selfe, to wit, adoration of Images, be [ E] vnlawfull, then it is in vaine to deliuer precepts and cautions to moderate excesse in the performance of it. But that adorati∣on of Images is vnlawfull, it hath formerly beene prooued by the words of the morall Law, and the perpetuall practise of the Iewish Church b, and of the Primitiue Church for cer∣taine
