¶ He exhorteth men to laye asyde al vyce, to abstayne from fleshely lustes, and to obey worldly rulers. Howe seruaun∣tes shulde behaue them selues towade theyr masters. He ex∣horteth to suffre after the ensample of Chryst.

WHerfore laye asyde all malicious∣nes [unspec A] and all gyle, and faynednesse & enuy and all backbyeynge: •• * 1.1 as newe borne babes, desyre ye that myleke (not of the body but of the soule) which is wt out disceyte: that ye may grow therby •• (vn∣to saluacyon). If so be that ye haue ••••sted, howe gracious the Lord is, to 〈◊〉〈◊〉 ••e 〈◊〉〈◊〉, as vnto a lyuyng stone, disalowed of 〈◊〉〈◊〉▪ but chosen of god & precious: & ye as 〈◊〉〈◊〉 stones, are made a spirituall house 〈◊〉〈◊〉 〈◊〉〈◊〉 presthode, for to offre vp spiritual sacrifices. acceptable to God by Iesus Christ. Wher¦fore it is contained also in the scripture: •• be¦holde [unspec B] I put in Syon a stone to be layde 〈◊〉〈◊〉 the chefe corner, electe & precyous, & he that beleueth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therfore whych beleue he is precy¦ous: but vnto them whyche beleue not * 1.2 the stone which the buylders refused, the same is begōne to be the heade of ye corner, & a sto∣ne that men stomble at, and a Rocke wher∣at they be offended whyche stomble at the worde, and beleued not that, wheron they were set.
