The XXX. Chapter.

ANd Moses spake vnto the rulers of [ A] the trybes of the children of Israel, and saide: This is it that the LORDE hath commaūded:* 1.1 Yf eny man make a vowe vnto the LORDE, or sweare an ooth, so that he binde his soule, he shal not breake his wor¦de, but do all that is proceaded out of his mouth.

Yf a damsell make a vowe vnto y^e LOR∣DE, and bynde hirself, whyle she is in hir fathers house, and vnmaried, and hir vowe or bonde that she maketh ouer hir soule, commeth to hir fathers eares, & he holde his

peace therto, thē all hir vowes & bondes y^t she hath boūde hir self withall ouer hir sou¦le, shal stōde in effecte. But yf hir father for¦byd her y^e same daye that he heareth it, thē shal no vowe ner bonde that she hath boun∣de hir self withall ouer hir soule, be of vay∣le. And the LORDE shalbe mercifull vnto her, for so moch as hir father forbad her.

[ B] Yf she haue an huszbande, & hath a vowe vpon her, or yf she haue letten go out of hir lippes a bōde ouer hir soule, & hir huszbande heare it, & holdeth his peace therat, the same daye that he heareth it, then hir vowe & bon¦de wherwith she hath boūde hir self ouer hir soule, shal stonde in effecte. But yf hir husz∣bande forbyd her the same daye that he hea¦reth it, thē is the vowe lowse y^t she hath vpō hir, & the bonde also that she hath letten go out of hir lippes ouer hir soule, and the LOR¦DE shalbe gracious vnto her.

The vowe of a wyddowe, & of her y^t is deuorced, all y^t she byndeth hir self withall ouer hir soule, shal stonde in effecte vpō her.

[ C] Yf she vowe in hir huszbādes house, or bin¦de hir self w^t an ooth ouer hir soule, & hir hus∣bande heare it, & holde his peace therto, and forbyddeth it not, thē shal all y^e same vowe, & all y^t she hath boūde hir self w^t all ouer hir soule, stōde ī effecte. But yf hir huszbāde dis¦anulle it, y^e same daye y^t he heareth it, thē is it of no value y^t is proceaded out of hir lip∣pes, which she hath vowed or boūde ouer hir soule: for hir huszbāde hath made it lowse, & the LORDE shalbe gracious vnto her. And all vowes & oothes y^t bynde to humble y^e sou¦le, maie hir huszbāde stablish or breake, thus: Yf he holde his peace therto frō one daie to another, then stablisheth he all hir vowes & bondes, y^t she hath vpon her, because he hel∣de his peace, the same daye y^t he herde thē. But yf he disanulle thē after y^t he hath her¦de thē, then shal he take awaie hir miszdede.

These are the statutes y^t the LORDE cō∣maunded Moses betwene a man & his wife, & betwene the father & his doughter, whyle she is yet a damsell in hir fathers house.
