BUt Herode ye Tetrarcha whā he was rebuked of Iohn be∣cause of Herodias the wyfe.*(Marke) of Philippe hys bro∣ther, for he maryed her. (Luke.) And for all the euels that Herode dyd. (Mat.) For Iohn sayd vnto him, It is Page  24 not lawful for thee to baue (Mar.) thy brothers wyfe: (Luke) besyde all thys Herode (Math.) toke Iohn, bounde hym, and put hym into prysonne for Herodias sake hys brother Philips wyfe. (Marke) For Herodias layde wayte for hym, and woulde haue slayne hym, and coulde not. Notwith¦standynge Herode feared Iohn, for he knewe that he was a iuste and ho∣ly man. (Math.)
