A praier to be heard, and to obtaine fauour.

Mother.

SEeing that it hath pleased thee, most mercifull Father, so fauou∣rablie to consider the weakenesse and vnwoorthinesse of mankinde; that whereas wee could of our selues, neither lift vp our eies vnto thee, because of our weakenesse; neither yet hope for anie good thing at thy hands, because of our vnwoorthinesse, euen in this extreme miserie hast giuen vnto vs thy welbelo∣ued Sonne Iesus Christ, in whome we are not onelie made able to lift vp our harts vnto thee, but also may assure our selues, through his merits and passion, of thy fauour and mercie, in what so euer we shall aske agreeable to thy good will and pleasure.

As we doo first from the bottome of our hart yeeld vnto thee all thanks, honour and glorie, for this thine inestimable goodnesse bestowed on vs thine vnwoorthie seruants: so doo we likewise (beeing assured of thy mercie promised in Christ) dailie present our selues be∣fore thee, to the intent that through our faithfull prai∣ers, we may dailie more and more receiue the fruits of this thy mercifull goodnesse, to releeue our continu∣all necessities withall. We are heere, O Lord, in a strange countrie: our enimies are on euerie side: which waie so euer we turne vs, we see nothing but ei∣ther continuall conflicts, or else vtter destruction. Thou therefore, O holie Father, that hast giuen vs thine onlie Sonne Iesus Christ, to the intent that in his name we might call vpon thee; vouchsafe likewise to heare vs, what time soeuer we call vnto thee in his name; that sith it hath pleased thee, to exercise vs with continuall tribulation, for our triall, through him we Page  732 may obtaine such patience and strength, that we may continuallie stand stronglie, to the maintenance of thy cause, to thy honor and glorie; and let not our deserts so much prouoke thy displeasure against vs, that there∣fore thou cease to glorifie thy holie name in vs; but ra∣ther of thy goodnesse forgiue thou our sinnes, which to the hinderance of thy honor and glorie we haue com∣mitted: and giue vs grace, hartilie to repent vs of our misdeeds, in such sort, that we may hencefoorth seeke thy face, and walke before thee in newnesse of life, see∣king thy honor and glorie aboue all things; that as it hath been hitherto hindered by vs to our shame, so now it may by al meanes be furthered, euen by vs likewise, to the vnspeakable comfort of vs all, through Iesus Christ our Lord.

Daughter:

Amen.
