S. Epiphanius inueyeth bitterly against one Zachaeus,* 1.1 who being but a ••ay man, presumed impudently to handle the holie mysterie••. And saint Ierome saieth of Hilarius the heretike, that he could neither baptize nor administer the eucharist; be∣cause he was but a deacon, when hee went out of the church.
