Caustickes.

A Ruptorie of great force to open an Apo∣steme, mortifie a Fistula, &c.

* 1.1REc. Cineris fabarum two partes, calcis viuae pulu. partem tertiam. Put to them water and make a lée: which is neuer strong enough vntill it will beare vp an Egge, therefore strengthen and renewe your first order vntill you haue it fit for your purpose. When you haue your lee strong enough, resolue therin calcem viuam puluerizatam, auripigmentum, saponem saracenicum, as much of each as you see good, and mixe them all to the fourme of an Unguent.

Another Causticke.

* 1.2Rec. Pulueris sublimati ʒ.ij. succi hyos∣ciami ℥.j. Mixe them and drie them toge∣ther: afterward make them into most fine powder.

A most excellent Ruptorie.

* 1.3Rec. Calcis viui opt. lib.j. Burne the same againe in a fire of charre coales three or foure oures: after powder it finely. Put it in lixiuij barbitonsoris lib.ij. and boyle them together in a brasse pan vntill they bée

thicke. Hereof make tentes and Trochisces round, flat, and euery forme that may serue your purpose. When you wil occupie them, wet one side of them with spettle and lay it to the place, and in one houre it will pierce the thicknesse of halfe an inch. Kéepe them in a glasse close stopped.

An excellent and proued Causticke that roo∣teth out all callous of Fistulaes and foule spongious growings of cancerous vlcers.

Rec. Vitri antimonij,* 1.4 what quantitie you will, grinde it excéedingly fine, then put vpon it succi apij, & mellis rosacei, of each a little, proportionablie; grinde them so to∣gether, encreasing your liquid quantities still proportionablie, vntil you haue brought all to the fourme of a thinne Unguent.

An Vnguent to cauterize a veyne that will not otherwise stay bleeding.

Rec. Vng. populei, ℥.ss. vitrioli vsti, ʒ.ij. mercurij sublimati ʒ.iij. Fiat vnguentum.

Another strong Ruptorie or deepe Causticke.

Rec. Calcis non extinctae ℥.ix. cinerem* 1.5 de cerro (which Diers vse) on these powre as much water as will couer them, and two

fingers breadth aboue: steepe them so long till the ashes & calx haue yéelded their fore: then cléere out the water and put to it newe calx and cineres as before. Do thus eight times. Rec. capitelli istius cyathum j. olei cyathum j. and boyle them together to the wasting of the Lée at a gentle fire.

Another Ruptorie more gentle.

Rec. Lixiuij fortis lib.ij. vitrioli albi ℥.iiij. calcis viuae optimè combustae q.s. Mixe and boyle them at a gentle fire to the forme of an vnguent.
