As if to be inserted in the 2d Book of the FAIRY QUEEN, between the 11th and 12th Cantos.
ARGUMENT.
The Prince nigh cur'd of mortal stowers,
Alma to entertain,
Shows him Dan Phoebus' magick bowers,
Where the Nine Ladies reign.
I.
FOOLS they who vainly ween that Temperaunce
Her joyous sweet amenities denies
To human kind, or looks with sight ascaunce
Whan they with liberal delights devise
Their ears to feed, or gratify their eyes;
Nothing she bids witholden that behoves
Him to ensue who nould be dempt unwise,
All sports, and rational pleasaunce she loves,
But hateth idle Lust who ay at random roves.
