Weniger Tel: (404) 639-6113 Fax: (404) 639-6118 bgw2@cidhiv 1.em.cdc.gov DATE: 20 October 1995 SUBJECT: Planning for December 7-8 Meeting Dear All, That was great to talk with you all again yesterday as we begin to gear up for activities in the months ahead. Thanks to Alexandra for organizing the conference call and assuming the burden of coordinating our Research Committee activities. As expected, upon hanging up, I realized something important to mention on the call and for us to begin thinking about soon if we are to maximize the productivity and usefulness of our December 7-8 meeting immediately after the White House conference on the 6th. I think it would be important to take advantage of the presence in Washington of many of the invitees to the conference, as well as senior AIDS policymakers in government who may be there as observers, as well as others who don't make it onto the invitation list. One suggestion would be for Thursday 7 December to be devoted, as possible, to simultaneous sessions of our various committees (Prevention, Research, Care, Discrimination, etc.), at which we can schedule these conference invitees and others to provide us information, brief us _== on their views, and engage in questions and discussion. (I have doubts that the hectic pace and format of the White House Conference on the 6th will permit a thorough and thoughtful exploration of many of the important issues.) Then, the 8th of December can be devoted, more or less, to plenary meetings of the council to inform members of the other committees of __our findings, conclusions, and recommendations at that point. _ Scott, would you please let us all know your plans for organizing the 7th and 8th, council meeting? If we agree to this suggestion, it will require a lot of advance contact work by committee members to ensure many of these resource persons are available and suitably ~ scheduled on the 7th for our Research Committee meeting to hear from them. _,_
