It's not a lack of concern, but you 9 can't get people to focus on the question of how to make a 10 vaccine universally available when the prevailing climate, 11 the prevailing word out there, generated by just a few -- 12 RABBI EDELHEIT: Okay. 13 DR. WENIGER: I sort of asked that question 14 about vaccine development experience in the last couple of 15 years of looking at this issue. When the Levine committee 16 was reviewing NIH, they had an AIDS vaccine panel, and 17 there were 16 people on that panel, and I did Medline 18 literature searches back to the beginning of the 19 computerized Medline in 1965, and only about three or four 20 out of those 16 could I find any published scientific 21 article about any vaccine for human or veterinary use. 22 The majority of the people on that panel, as 23 well as the vaccine working group in 1994, as well as the 24 AIDS Research Advisory Committee in 1994 that voted against 25 conducting these field trials that you're talking about, 26 those people with experience in developing vaccines are in FREILICHER & ASSOCIATES, COURT REPORTERS (301) 881-8132
