[Email to David Baltimore from Bruce Weniger]
Weniger, Bruce From: Weniger, Bruce [CORP/NIPI/bgw2] Sent: 21-Jan-97 14:09 To: Baltimore, David (MIT) Subject: Suggested experts for focus groups and committee Dear Dr. Baltimore, As you engage in your scientific "focus groups" and pull together your committee to guide the AIDS vaccine effort for NIH, I wanted to suggest you might contact and include some world-class scientists who have spent most of their professional careers involved in vaccine research and development (see below, listed alphabetically). A quick MEDLINE search of their published articles would attest to this expertise. None of those listed know that I am sharing with you their names and whatever contact info I have for them Although many of those listed do not have direct experience in HIV or AIDS, they are pretty bright people, and in a few months of targeted reading could probably bring themselves up-to-date on what is now known about the immunology and pathogenesis of HIV. Their career experience in the "art" of developing vaccines, however, might provide some useful balance for others in your focus groups and committee who may know HIV well, but lack such vaccine R&D experience.
