President Clinton Releases First-Ever National AIDS Strategy
12/20/96 FRI 19:01 FAX 2026321090 AIDS POLICY - - - SCIENCE [ 006 TRANSIATIONOF RESEARCH INTO PRACTICE * Developing Treatment Guideins One of the most critical tasks for clinicians and patients is interpreting the patchwork of data and articles regarding treatments and converting it into a therapeutic strategy for their patients. The Administration has begun a threepronged strategy to develop information for clinicians and patients, The National Institutes of Health has held the first of a series of conferences to bring together current scientific information about new AIDS treatments. The Office of HIV/AIDS Policy at the Department of Health and Human Services has begun a process to develop clinical practice guidelines in conjunction with relevant Federal Agencies and private sector representatives. And the Forum for Collaborative HIV Research, a public-private partnership involving researchers, clinicians, and patient advocates, will identify additional clinical trials to be supported by the Forum participants, which include Federal Agencies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates.
