President Clinton Signs Executive Order for Creation of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS and Announces Twenty-Three Members of the Council

Microsoft Mail v3.0 IPM.Microsoft Mail.Note From: Gayle, Helene D. To: Weniger, Bruce Subject: RE: PACHA Recommendations Date: 1995-12-15 13:07 Priority: Message ID: A4C76241 Conversation ID: A4C76241 Thanks. I look foward to getting them. When we have some time, I'd like to talk to you about your role on the committee, which has from the beginning been somewhat controversial. I think it would be important to make sure that you don't put yourself in a position where people perceive there is a conflict of interest with your participating. I'll give you a call sometime to set up time to talk about it. If I don't see you before, have happy holidays. Helene From: Weniger, Bruce To: Gayle, Helene D. Subject: PACHA Recommendations Date: Friday, December 15, 1995 11:49AM Priority: High Dear Helene, I've sent you via interoffice mail to E-06 an early-warning advance look at the full text of all the recommendations from last week's meeting of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV and AIDS (PACHA). The official version which will probably reach you through routine channels may rearrange the order of items, change the format and style, and perhaps have additional cover letter(s) or introductory material. But the substantive text as voted by the Council should not change. Most of the CDC-related recommendations came out of the Prevention Committee (of which I am NOT a member). In plenary session, I offered some epidemiologic consultation to explain what it takes to produce incidence data, but otherwise was not much involved in the discussion, as I'm not familiar with many of CDC's domestic HIV/AIDS activities and the issues involved. Regards, Bruce
