President Clinton Signs Executive Order for Creation of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS and Announces Twenty-Three Members of the Council
THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON July 7, 1995 Bruce G. Weniger, M.D. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of HIV/AIDS 1600 Clifton Road, N.E. Atlanta, Georgia 30333 Dear Bruce: Thank you. for your willingness to serve on the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV and AIDS. As we near the fifteenth year of this terrible epidemic, it is vital that we continue to fight HIV and AIDS both aggressively and effectively. My Administration has been untiring in support of efforts to prevent HIV transmission, to unlock the mysteries of this disease and find a vaccine and a cure, and to provide high-quality, compassionate care for those who are living with HIV and AIDS. The President's Council is an important part of this continuing commitment. Government alone cannot respond effectively to this national crisis; we need the expertise and dedication of those who confront the disease every day. I will look to you for advice and counsel on what we are doing right and what we are doing wrong; what we should be doing and what we shouldn't be doing; where our efforts are working and where they are not. And, as this epidemic continues to challenge us, I will need your help in designing new and better ways to respond. The months ahead will be filled with hard work, but together we will share the satisfaction of meeting this enemy with skill, courage, and a vigorous commitment to prevail. Sincerely,
