Dear Mr. Cohen:
This is in further response to your request of August 3, 1994 under provisions of the Freedom of
Information Act and the Presidential Records Act. We have completed processing, according to
provisions of the PRA and FOIA, the approximately 4,000 pages of Presidential records,
pertaining to AIDS, that are responsive to the third segment of your FOIA request. Of the
subject records, the total number of pages restricted in whole or in part from access under each
restriction category of the PRA or FOIA is as follows:
P5 - 32 pp.; P6 - 7 pp.
Some pages may be restricted under more than one category. A list of the PRA and FOIA
restriction categories is attached.
The remaining documents, approximately 3,960 pages, are open in whole to research. We will be
happy to provide you with copies of the open and partially open records (approximately 3,960 pp.
(including 9 pages of document withdrawal forms) you have requested upon receipt of the
reproduction fee of 50 cents per page. If you wish to order copies, please call or write me (1 -800-410-8354, ext.2045). Or you may view the documents in our research room at the Library,
where a self-service copier is available for the price of 10 cents per page. Checks or money
orders should be made out to the National Archives Trust Fund, and the Library will also take
Visa or Master Card orders. For your information, I have included the current finding aid for
AIDS, highlighted the new material, and included estimated page counts for the new material.
If you want us to place the fourth segment of your request within our non-classified processing
queue, after other request segments received prior to yours, please sign the enclosed card and
return with the attached envelope. Based upon current estimates, it could take approximately 8 -10 months to complete processing your next segment. If we have not received your response
within 15 workdays of the date of this letter, we will assume that you do not wish to continue
your request.
You have the right to file an administrative appeal of any Presidential record properly restricted
under 44 U.S.C. 2204 (a)(b) or 5 U.S.C. 552. The appeal must be submitted in writing to the
Director, Ronald Reagan Library, 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley, CA 93065. Both the letter
and the envelope should be clearly marked "PRA/FOIA Appeal". You have 35 calendar days
from the date of this letter to file your appeal.
