1 of the NIH Advisory Committee to the Director, which
2 will be on December 2nd.
3 I must emphasize that, despite the
4 concerns that we may have about the process by which
5 gp-160 was selected by the Congress, it is absolutely
6 imperative that this panel give gp-160 an objective
7 and fair assessment.
8 My other charge to you today is to discuss
9 and make comments and recommendations on a number of
10 specific issues. These issues are already enumerated
11 in Dr. Moskowitz's letter to you. I will go through
12 them briefly.
13 First, what is the current scientific
14 assessment of the MicroGeneSys gp-160 vaccine
15 candidate as a therapeutic agent?
16 Secondly, based on the scientific merit of
17 the GP-160 vaccine, should a large scale efficacy
18 trial be initiated at this time in HIV seropositive
19 individuals?
20 3. Since no formal protocol is available
21 at this time, what should the role of the NIH be over
22 the next six months, which is the time stated in the
