3 less than that of any of the currently licensed
4 antivirals. In other words, if we put this in
5 perspective, the figure that I showed you between
6 responders and non-responders, or what Fred has been
7 talking about, is stabilization as compared to fall.
8 I would say that all the didioxy compounds
9 that we study from an antiviral point of view, we are
10 looking for absolute rises in CD4 count. I think to
11 me it tells us that the potency of this vaccine as far
12 as an antiviral effect or CD4 elevating effect is not
13 as potent as at least the available licensed
14 antivirals.
15 Now, don't construe me to say that they
16 don't have clinical benefit or might not have clinical
17 benefit, but at least I would put forth the idea that
18 we already know that its potency is not as great as,
19 quote, "classic antiviral drugs."
20 As potential therapeutic agents, they are
21 likely to be for early phases of HIV infection. This
