[Minutes, Advisory Committee to the Director GP-160 Meeting (1992: Bethesda, Maryland)]

59 1 product in which we inserted the gp-160 vaccine into 2 vaccinia construct and showed that that was safe, 3 induced good T-Cell responses but induced very poor 4 humoral antibody responses. 5 The gp-160 construct in our hands, when 6 given alone, gave very poor T-Cell responses that were 7 very transient, a little bit better humoral antibody 8 responses, and that we reasoned that if we put these 9 vaccines together, maybe we would get a synergistic 10 response. 11 That is the message that I'm going to give 12 you, but we have learned more as we have looked at 13 this synergistic response what happens with respect to 14 protection and functional antibody. 15 There's a typo here. So just look at the 16 fact that we have given a series of patients -- We've 17 what we've called primed them with the vaccinia 18 recombinant. We boosted them one year later with gp19 160, the MicroGeneSys product, and then boosted them 20 at two years later, and I'll show you why we did that, 21 with again gp-160. Next slide. 22 Now we were very gratified when we did the NEAL R. GROSS COURT REPORTERS-AND TRANSCRIBERS 1323 RHODE ISLAND AVENUE, N.W. (202) 234-4433 WASHINGTON, D.C. 20005 (202) 234-4433
