3 CO-CHAIRMAN FAUCI: At the National
4 Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, there
5 have been some considerable experience with the gp-160
6 product, both in the intramural and the extramural
7 program.
8 What we'd like to offer for you today is
9 to share with you some information on an ongoing
10 trial. Dr. Fred Valentine is the principle
11 investigator at the New York University AIDS Clinical
12 Trial Unit and involved in Protocol ACTC 137, which is
13 using the MicroGeneSys product in the active
14 immunization of asymptomatic HIV infected individuals.
15 We have asked Fred to share with us some
16 of the data that are available at this time.
17 DR. VALENTINE: Thank you. It's very
18 clear -- Can I have the first slide, please? It's
19 very clear that infected individuals make a number of
20 immune responses to HIV, but it is also clear that
21 everyone in this room that those immune responses
22 ultimately are not sufficient to contain the
