[Minutes, Advisory Committee to the Director GP-160 Meeting (1992: Bethesda, Maryland)]

26 1 moderate immunosuppression. These are patients that 2 are still a significant time away from experiencing 3 clinical events, and one study examined the impact of 4 AZT on immune response. Next slide, please. 5 Now here is a summary, an almost 6 qualitative summary, of the data that has been 7 reported to date. Before we get into it, let me 8 provide a legend for the interpretation of this slide. 9 Across here are the four studies 10 previously described in design. Here are several of 11 the variables which have been measured in most of 12 these studies. The first four concentrate on immune 13 responses. Here's viral load and CD4 effect. 14 A positive connotes an increase, since in 15 all of these there is some -- in all of the immune 16 responses, natural infection -- natural infection, the 17 infecting virus, already produces some level of immune 18 response in each of these parameters. 19 Of course -- There is, of course, a 20 circulating viral load and a change in CD4 induced by 21 the natural infection. Therefore, a plus connotes 22 some increase in the parameter measured. A zero means NEAL R. GROSS COURT REPORTERS AND TRANSCRIBERS 1323 RHODE ISLAND AVENUE, N.W.
