1 I think we have to put ourselves in the
2 position of a person who's seropositive. Tomorrow is
3 a very short period for a person who's seropositive.
4 A year is a long time to wait for a person who's
5 seropositive.
6 At the same time, we have to do the
7 responsible thing because we are responsible for
8 taxpayers' money, and we must invest their money
9 wisely.
10 We cannot allow those things that we don't
11 know to hold us up. We have to go with what we know.
12 We have to go with those populations that we know that
13 those vaccines are safe in. And we may find out later
14 they're not totally safe.
15 We have to monitor whatever we decide to
16 do carefully, but we must move rapidly. We must move
17 carefully. We must study a variety of endpoints and
18 select and carefully balance clinical and scientific
19 findings and the things that we need to know.
20 I know that we can do it. We've done it
21 before. We just have to convince ourselves that we
22 can do it. We have some of the most productive
