I HAVE CONVENED THIS MEETING UNDER THE AUTHORITIES OF THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH'S ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO THE DIRECTOR. WE HAVE COME TOGETHER TODAY TO DISCUSS THE MANDATE THAT THE NIH RECENTLY RECEIVED FROM THE CONGRESS TO DETERMINE THE SCIENTIFIC MERITS OF GP-160, A DRUG THAT MAY PROVE TO BE EFFECTIVE IN TREATING INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE INFECTED WITH THE HIV VIRUS. *PRESENTED TO THE NIH PANEL TO REVIEW GP-160 VACCINE CANDIDATE, NOVEMBER 5, 1992. **DIRECTOR, NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH, BETHESDA, MARYLAND.
