8. Have you received any compensation for your services to ASAP? Answer: No. As a participant in the Speaker's Bureau I was reimbursed for direct expenses. I never received a speaker's fee. 9. Do you know if any Command personnel have been involved in activities on behalf of ASAP which are inconsistent with their Government employment? Answer: No. 10. Do you know if Command personnel have disclosed scientific information to ASAP which is not public information? Answer: No. 11. Does Mr. Smith of ASAP receive, or has he received, any scientific information concerning BIV research from military laboratories that is not immediately available to the general public? Answer: I don't know if he got information early. 12. What is your understanding of the phone conversation from Mr. Smith of ASAP to Dr. Vahey on 24 August 1992. Answer: I called Mr. Smith about the phone call. Mr. Smith was concerned about the interpretation of the data. I told him that the, "phone call came at exactly the wrong time and could be interpreted as intrusive." 13. Was Mr. Smith a privileged receiver of scientific information about gpl60 data that was not to be released until the 31 July 1992 at the Chantilly meeting? Answer: No. 14. Do you believe Mr. Smith tried to influence Dr. Vahey's data analysis concerning gpl60? Answer: No. 15. Were you involved in any conversations with ASAP personnel, anyone retained by ASAP, or Congressional personnel, where you discussed obtaining appropriated funds for the HIV research program generally, or the gpl60 vaccine trial in particular? Answer: No. 16. Do you know the name of the Congressman who introduced the language for the $20 million appropriation for gpl60 research? Answer: No. 17. Do you know if Mr. Smith of ASAP has any personal or financial connection to MicroGeneSys? Answer: No. 18. Does Mr. Smith help you and the Military HIV Program keep abreast of the political aspects of the research program? Answer: In general he was informative.
