BURKEQU 6 April 1993 0825-0945 Hrs INTERVIEW WITH COL DONALD S. BURKE 1. What is your understanding of the charter of ASAP? Answer: See Exhibit I. 2. Have you served or been a member of the "Scientific Advisory Board" or the "Executive Committee" of ASAP? What are their functions? Answer: I had two functions. I was on the Technical Advisory Board from June 1989 and was on the ASAP Speaker's Bureau from November 1988. I did not know I was on the Executive Committee. The Annual Report makes ASAP seem more organized than it is. I resigned from ASAP on 11 October 1992. The Technical Advisory Committee met twice a year and advised ASAP on the AIDS epidemic. I saw Mr. Smith once or twice a month from the late 1980's until early 1991. Mr. Smith would ask my opinion on how to control the AIDS epidemic. I talked at the state, national and international level. Once I attended an Investment Seminar put on by ASAP. ASAP brought groups together interested in technology. I was interested in promoting diagnostics technological in nature. 3. If you have been a member of ASAP, what was the nature of any work or assistance you provided? Answer: See above. 4. In as much detail as possible, relate the conversations you have had with ASAP personnel, or describe the involvement you have had with ASAP. Answer: See above. 5. When and where have you conducted your involvement with ASAP? Answer: No one place. Mr. Smith visited Taft Court a couple of times. I don't think I ever went to the ASAP facility. 6. Does Mr. W. Shepherd Smith, Jr. of ASAP come to your office for ASAP business or does he call you at your office for ASAP business? If so, approximately how often does this occur? Answer: See above 7. Has any ASAP business been performed by you at government facilities? This includes typing, secretarial work, FAX, etc. Answer: No. I would occasionally prepare a lecture in my office from slides or information I already had.
