[1991 Annual Report, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research]
Ui* Summary In addition to these highlighted programs, ASAP staff continued to serve on panels with the Centers for Disease Control, the American Red Cross, the U.S. Fire Administration, and other organizations to review programs, AIDS/HIV materials, and provide input for effective communication, education and prevention. ASAP programs and staff were featured in CDC's monthly AIDS/HIV Update, on CNN News, Fox Morning News, Family News in Focus, and on more than 100 regional and local media outlets nationwide. Requests for ASAP's counsel, leadership and resources continue to increase with the organization's expertise and longevity. Having achieved recognition of the appropriateness of its founding tenets, ASAP seeks to further limit the spread of the epidemic and deal effectively with its consequences. One possible means to accomplish this is through targeted state-wide programs. ASAP state chapters active in North Carolina and under formation in New England, will serve as models for such future efforts. The effective programs and achievements of 1991 have in large measure set priorities and strategies for 1992, enabling ASAP staff, supporters and volunteers to enter the new year with a solid foundation and firm direction building toward a future in which the epidemic's relentless spread will be curtailed and the suffering of so many eliminated.
