REPORT ON THE INQUIRY ON THE CLINICAL INVESTIGATIONS PERFORMED AT
SAINT ANTOINE HOSPITAL ON VIRUS INFECTION BY HIV
1. Clinical investigations related to the HIV virus have been
performed at SAINT ANTOINE Hospital since December 1988.
These investigations are a collaboration between Professor'ZAGURY,
Department Chief of the Department of Cellular Physiology at the
Pierre and Marie Curie University, and the physicians of the SAINT
ANTOINE Hospital. Professor ZAGURY, histoembryologist physician is
not a staff member of the A.P.-H.P. [NATIONAL ASSISTANCE BOARD -
HOSPITALS OF PARIS] and does not practice at SAINT ANTOINE
Hospital. He is the originator of the investigations. Dr. Odile
PICARD, dermatologist, hospital practitioner in the Department of
Internal Medicine of Professor IMBERT, is the clinical physician
investigator.
2. Two directions were followed in the investigations:
- Development of a vaccine, used experimentally on healthy
volunteers.
- Evaluation of immunotherapy in the treatment of A.R.C. (AIDS
related complex] and AIDS.
Each of these two types of research was first approved by the
competent Ethics Committees:
- On the experimental vaccine:
- First approval of the National Ethics Committee on June 22,
1988.
- Second approval of the National Ethics Committee, following
a request for an extension of the trials, on September 19, 1990.
