MEMORANDUM

Subject: Clinical experiment on AIDS conducted at the Saint
Antoine Hospital
Our Ref.: Dr. M.F.C./M.B./F.B. - General Inspection No. 91.04.030
Mr. CREWDSON, reporter for the "Chicago Tribune," was
received at the Department of General Inspection and Internal
Audit by Mr. BAUR and Doctor CHEDRU on April 5, 1991, from 10:45
a.m. to 12:15 p.m. This interview took place after a request to
meet in the office of Mr. DURIEUX was not granted.
'Mr. CREWDSON is known for the perseverance with which he
follows--like a policeman--and reports in the press the doings
and movements of Prof. GALLO.
Mr. CREWDSON had at his disposal a full dossier. He
possessed, among other documents, the names of two of the
patients who had died of necrosis, and told us that he had
contacted their families or their next of kin.
Mr. CREWDSON pointed out some of the general aspects with
regard to French legislation and practice, and some particUlar
points with regard to the experiments that took place at the
Saint Antoine Hospital. On this last subject, the nuiries of
Mr. CREWDSON which uniquely bear on the protocol of immunotherapy
are the following:
