YOU CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE!! Since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, grassroots advocacy has been the heart of many political victories. In the current political environment, your involvement is needed more than ever. Join over 1,500 Treatment Action Network (TAN) members and become an influential advocate for AIDS treatment and research issues! 4 What is the Treatment Action Network? TAN is the largest national grassroots network of individuals lobbying on HIV/AIDS research and treatment I issues. TAN members communicate with their representatives on federal HIV/AIDS appropriations and legis01 lation, with a strong emphasis on treatment and health care access. From time to time, TAN members are also I asked to contact the FDA or drug companies to push forward access to promising treatments. I What do TAN members receive? TAN members receive regular mailings containing updates on federal activity and Action Alerts on timely issues that need your attention. TAN Alerts provide substantial background information and sample letters/ phone messages so that you are well-informed when communicating with your elected officials. TAN members are also notified about actions and events in their local areas, and are invited to participate in AIDSWatch, a yearly citizen-lobbying event in Washington, D.C. What does it cost to be a TAN member? U_ Other than a few stamps and occasional long-distance phone calls, the only cost of participating in this imporg e tant network is a few minutes every month communicating with your representatives about issues that affect you every day.
