Dear Dr. Koshland,
Last week, I sent to Jon Cohen a thick package of documentation concerning Gallo, the NAS, and the
HIV/AIDS question. Jon Cohen just called me on the phone (2:30 pm), and his first sentence was to
acknowledge receipt and to thank me for the package. He started to ask me something. I then told him
that any communications between him and me will have to be in writing. He asked me why, and I
replied that I did not have to give a reason. I thanked him and hung up. He called me back a minute
later, and I repeated my statement.
I have objected previously to articles in Science by Paul Selvin, Christopher Anderson (who has now
left Science), and Jon Cohen, and I have documented my objections. Among other things, I made up the
Science-Rubinstein file last spring. I have documented how Science, via the above reporters, has given
improper information to its readers on various counts, including inadequate and tendentious reporting
for quite a while, concerning the Harrison case, the Gallo case, the HIV/AIDS case, and the National
Academy of Sciences. I don't have the time right now to summarize a bill of particulars, which I have
drawn extensively and documented concretely over the last couple of years in my mailings. However, I
want to inform you that under the circumstances, I do not trust Science. Therefore, until further notice, I
do not accept communications with Rubinstein and the above mentioned reporters except in writing.
