5) If the long-term effects of nitrite exposure will generate pain, animals will be terminated and the
mice will be sacrificed after sodium Pentothal (pentobarbital) injection (50 mg per kg i. p.) or cervical
translocation. Cervical dislocation will be used whenever subsequent blood analyses are necessary.
An animal use protocol has been submitted to the Office of Laboratory Animal Care of the University
of California at Davis.
7. Consultants / Collaborators
There will be no consultants or collaborators involved in this project.
8. Consortium/Contractual Arrangements
An arrangement will be established with UC Davis, which will comply with our Federal regulations
and policies. This agreement will be written after the award has been made.
