RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT FACILITIES: Mark the facilities to be used at each performance site listed in Item 9, Face Page, and briefly indicate their capacities, pertinent capabilities, relative proximity, and extent of availability to the project. Laboratory: El] Animal: The research laboratory available for this project and committed for the proposed project period, consists of roughly 1,813 square feet of space on the fifth floor of Wendell M. Stanley Hall, on the University of California at Berkeley campus. Work on animals in connection with this project will be performed at UC Davis, and is covered by Animal Welfare Assurance Number A3433-01, held by Otto G. Raabe, Ph.D., in whose laboratory the work will be performed. LiI Clinical: Computer: Eli Office: Principal Investigator and staff are currently equipped with a laser printer and two Mac II computers with color monitors and modem. Specialty software is in use for genetic mapping and modelling of sequences. Graphics and other programs are used for construction of diagrams, graphs, figures and drawings related to the research, and for subsequent manuscript preparation for publication. These computers also provide on-line access to scientific databases and telecommunications. Office space immediately adjacent to the laboratory is provided for the Principal Investigator, professional personnel, and graduate students. L Other(__ MAJOR EQUIPMENT: List the most important equipment items already available for this project, noting the loacation and pertinent capabilities of each. The laboratory is equipped with: four cell culture incubators; three ultracentrifuges with adequate rotors; two Sorvall centrifuges; one scintillation counter; six high-voltage electrophoresis apparatuses; six electrophoresis power supplies; five -700 freezers; two -200 freezers; two inverted microscopes; a Zeiss spectrophotometer; three water baths; two balances; four refrigerators; two laminar flow hoods; and an automatic water distillation system. We also have an environmental incubator; three Savant speed-vac lyophilizers; five clinical centrifuges; a film processor; a Polaroid camera; a gel drying apparatus; a bacterial incubator/shaker, and a microwave oven for agar. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Provide any other information describing the environment of the project Identify support services such as consultant, secretarial, machine shop, and electronics shop, and the extent to which they wil be available to the project. Stanley Hall has excellent support facilities: competently staffed mechanical and carpentry shops, and a fully stocked storeroom.
