[Letter to Colleagues from Peter Duesberg]
Annotations Tools
Peter Duesberg March 4, 1992 Page - 2 - I feel that my paper describes a thoroughly investigated and consistent alternative to the entirely unsuccessful virus-AIDS hypothesis. This view is shared by five reviewers who have recommended that my paper be published in the Proceedings. It is my impression that Bogorad discriminates unfairly against my efforts to contribute to the solution of AIDS by offering a plausible alternative hypothesis. Further, Bogorad's censorship of my paper appears to be a violation of the Academy's principles of academic freedom and neutrality and of my right, as a member of the Academy in good standing, to publish in the Proceedings. It might be noted that the authors of the papers from Gallo's laboratory that claimed to have established a causal role for HIV in AIDS are currently under investigation for fraud or financial manipulation, which should raise questions about the integrity of their claims. It is my impression, and that of many other Academicians I have consulted, that the Proceedings is a forum for all members, and does not just reflect the views and opinions of its editor. In view of this, I request that you authorize the publication of my paper without further delay. Sincerely, Peter H. Duesberg PD/jb,bd cc: H. Rubin L. Bogorad
