[Letter to Colleagues from Peter Duesberg]

10 disease in the book. Now comes (iii) sexual activities with some gory details. This reviewer proposes to leave out (iii) because it distracts the reader (this reviewer vomits) and because it appears to support the infective theory of AIDS. If it is included, this reviewer would propose that the author simply state that "these infections can be explained by their promiscuous and often bloody sexual practices, which have been described (57)." This reviewer would also suggest that the author state WHY hecnidr rugs and infections as isfr AIDS; namely, that both impair the cellular immune response. p8 116 Now the author returns tho the subject of this 6 section - namely oral drugs. Apparently the author is saying that promiscuous homosexuals often use oral drugs. In short page 8 is damaged by the section (iii) and it is & not clear to this reviewer why it is included in a section devoted to Oral Drug Consumption. The same might be said about listing the infectious diseases observed in the 359 men. The author should consider lifting out all of the infectious diseases and dealing with them in a later section along with chronic antibiotic usage. This would shorten and clarify the thrust of p8. pl0 19 0.25% (read 1.25%) see above. pl0 line 12 Medical Drug Consumption and AIDS. Here the author may want to include a section of the prophylactic use of antibiotics, which would provide a vehicle for introducing the zoo of infectious diseases which debilitate the immune system, and how tetracyclines do the same thing, or simply citing his earlier publication on this. p11 p12 This section goes very well! Lots of important references and compelling information. p13 120 "The toxicity of AZT.... is high because only about 1 in 500 lymphocytes is infected..." There is something wrong with this sentence. Clearly what the author means is that AZT must be used at a relatively igh dosage - or that the toxic/therapeutic effect of AZT is very high. Suggest rewriting. p 14 This reviewer has not checked these references, but advises extreme caution in citing the numbers exactly as they are seen in these publications. The B-W people would not hesitate to sue the author for liable!
