[Letter to Jon Cohen from Bryan R. Cullen]
Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Laboratories Duke University Medical Center Post Office Box 3025 Durham, North Carolina 27710 Bryan R. Cullen, Ph.D. Associate Investigator (919) 684-3369 Fax (919) 681-8979 August 22, 1995 Dr. Jon Cohen Science 368 Stafford Ave. Cardiff, CA 92007 Dear Jon: I enclose copies of the four relevant Cell papers as well as a copy of the paper that we submitted to Science on May 15th. As you can see from the attached letter from Suki Parks, acceptance requires us to demonstrate that the TFIIIA leucine motif is a nuclear export signal. The relevant protein fusions have now been generated and will be microinjected next week. If this gives the desired result, I hope to resubmit by the end of the first week in September. Suki has assured me that the paper will be looked on favorably, if this data is included. Please note that the paper will require extensive revision, not least to include reference to the four Cell (and one Nature) paper, before resubmission. Nevertheless, the thrust of the matter, i.e. that TFIIIA contains a Rev like activation domain, will remain the same. I hope this information is helpful and will be happy to discuss our work with you further. Sincerely, Bryan R. Cullen, Ph.D. Professor of Genetics BRC/sg Enclosures 111111IIIIIIII 1111I 5571095.0238.003
