Dear Dr. Young,
I am writing a book on AIDS vaccine research for Delacorte Press, and
last month I requested an interview with you through public information
officer Rayford Kytle. A few days ago Mr. Kytle notified me that you
were not going to be available for an interview as your schedule was
too busy. That is why I am writing.
I am going to be researching my book for the next year and I would only
_need a few minutes of your time. Specifically, I'm interested in what
role you played when California passed its mini-FDA law in 1987. The L.A.
_Times recently reported that you flew to Sacramento at the time to try
_to lobby against the law.
