Skills Building Workshops Monday July 8 Developing, Supporting and Improving Homecare SB14Programs in Communities Venue: Room 2C Time: 14:30 - 17:30 Language: English Target Audience: Homecare practitioners running homecare projects, and those who intend to start projects This workshop explores the three challenges in homecare: coverage, economy, and quality. We will teach participants how to estimate coverage in the area they work in, how to allocate resources to reach more patients and how to improve quality. We will also work on monitoring and evaluation tools. The model used is based on work carried out in Zambia. Facilitators: R Marima, N Magunje-Dube, L Mhuriyengwe, P Mkwashi, Project Support Group, Zimbabwe; R Khathuria, Human Resources Trust, Zambia; C Oosthuizen, Project Support Association, South Africa Use of Alternative Art Forms Generated by and with SB15 IChildren and Youth: Strategies of HIV Advocacy Venue: Room 2D Time: 14:3o0- 17:3o0 Language: English Target Audience: HIV/AIDS advocates working with children/young people, older children advocates on HIV/AIDS/RH, activists using art forms for advocacy work, workers planning to use alternative art forms to improve their interventions This workshop will be co-facilitated by several very young HIV/AIDS advocates from Indonesia and the Philippines. Participants will share and explore the use of various art forms in HIV and reproductive health education work with children and youth and analyze the issues around the use of these art forms. The workshop will involve the development of advocacy material arising from the cross border, cross cultural experiences of the facilitators and participants. It provides HIV prevention educators working with same-sex attracted men in Western industrialized societies with the opportunity of exploring their own class backgrounds and reflecting on the impact of class differences on their educational interactions. Facilitators: M Wentzlaff-Eggebert, AIDS Council of South Australia, Australia Gaining Access to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria: Understanding the f SB17 Coordinated Country Mechanism Venue: Room 5:5A Time: 14:3o - 17:3o Language: English Target Audience: NGOs, CBOs, advocates This workshop will assist non-governmental organizations in understanding the potential impact, on their work, of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) and how to use it as a resource. The process to become involved in the Coordinated Country Mechanism (CCM) will be examined in detail and the experiences of NGOs will be shared. This workshop will provide an opportunity for communitybased HIV/AIDS organizations to improve their knowledge of the issues and to identify ways to address those issues. Facilitators: R Burzynski, ICASO, Canada; S Chong, Asia Pacific Council of AIDS Service Organizations, Malaysia Migration and HIV/AIDS: Community Work SB18in the Field of Prevention and Care Venue: Room 5.5B Time: 14:30 - 17:30 Language: English Target Audience: Health workers and policy makers involved in AIDS prevention and care for migrants and ethnic minorities (including refugees and asylum seekers) The workshop will cover some aspects of the issue of HIV/AIDS with respect to mobile populations. The workshop will provide the opportunity to learn about the vulnerability of migrants and ethnic minorities, e.g. legal, socio-economic and cultural factors. The focus will be to develop skills to mobilize communities, to make a community diagnosis and a needs assessment and to implement cross-actions between the North and the South. Facilitators: G. The workshop will explore: 1) Making sense of a program; 2) Making a plan/prioritizing; 3) Documenting a workshop; 4) Gathering materials; 5) Making contacts and 6) Using ongoing communication means (discussion forums, networks).
