Skills Building Workshops Wednesday July 1o Maximum Impact Coalition Building: SB38 HIV and Violence against Women and Girls Venue: Room 2A Time: o10:3o0- 13:3o0 Language: English Target Audience: People working in HIV, child safety, violence against women, sex trafficking, teen pregnancy, prostitution, gender parity, rape crisis, domestic violence, men's health This workshop will demonstrate how to build on the powerful work already being done in HIV, violence against women and related fields such as human rights, child protection, sex trafficking, public health, economic parity, etc., to develop multi-disciplinary nationwide coalitions on a scale never before attempted. The workshop will use pilot projects in South Africa, India and New Mexico, United States to train participants to bring these coalitions to their country. Facilitators: S Fisher, Intersect HIV Violence against Women and Girls Project, United States; R Gupta, Apne Ap, India Media and HIV/AIDS Prevention: a Key Alliance to SB391 Promote Healthy Behaviors and to Stop the Epidemic Venue: Room 2B Time: o10:3o - 13:3o0 Language: Spanish Target Audience: Journalists, publishers, editors, media representatives The workshop will focus on key information related to HIV/AIDS such as national and worldwide statistics, economic and social impact of the epidemic, national legal frameworks, sexual and reproductive health rights and the issue of vulnerability. We will also focus on how to define media strategies to promote behavior changes and to strengthen the population's capacity to better confront the epidemic. Facilitators: M Madina, Proyecto Accidn Sida Centro Amdrica, Spain Women Speaking Up: Female Leadership SB401 and Advocacy Skills Venue: Room 2C Time: -o:3o - 13:3o0 Language: English Target Audience: HIV+ women working in NGOs, CBOs and HIV community work Many women who are at risk or infected with HIV can improve their health and quality of life by advocating for themselves and others. In this workshop participants will learn techniques for HIV+ women around empowerment and self-advocacy, to be used in both personal relationships and community activism. As HIV transmission rates increase in women there is a greater need for women centered services and feminine leadership styles in the planning and provision of HIV/AIDS services. This workshop will devote time and space to recounting our successes and exploring ways of defining gender-based power and influence. Facilitators: B Hull, I Coleman, AIDS Alliance for Children Youth and Families, United States Empowering Migrant Workers against HIV/AIDS: Implementation of the Generic Manual on PreSB41 IDeparture, Post-Arrival and Reintegration Programs Venue: Room 2D Time: lo:3o - 13:3o Language: English Target Audience: NGOs, CBOs working with migrant workers and their families The workshop will focus on equipping CBOs and NGOs with regards to content, methodology and skills to organize and facilitate a participatory, rights based and gender sensitive pre-departure, post-arrival and reintegration program for migrant and mobile populations within the populations they work with. The workshop will build skills to implement a Generic Manual developed to reduce HIV vulnerability in migrant workers. Facilitators: S Verghis, CARAM Asia, Malaysia Developing Guidelines for Action on HIV Care Rooted in Communities: a Latin American and Caribbean SB421 Approach Venue: Room 2E Time: 1o:3o - 13:3o Language: Spanish Target Audience: Community leaders, people involved in CBOs specifically working in Latin America and the Caribbean The workshop will address the necessary steps for the development of a "Community Care Guide" as a tool to improve the effectiveness and quality of PLWHA care. Participants will assess specific community needs to care for PLWHAs. The workshop will provide tools to maximize human and resource capacities according to the needs expressed by participants. Facilitators: R Mazin, OPS/VHO, Mexico; C Rius; P Ramdn, OPS/VHO, Spain Capacity-Building Tools and Models for Working with Faith-Based Organizations to Address HIV SB431 throughout the African Diaspora Venue: Room 5:5A Time: o10:3o - 13:3o Language: English Target Audience: Persons who presently work with, or desire to work with faith communities This workshop will provide proven strategies, methods and tools for engaging faith communities in a continuous process of becoming effective partners in fighting the AIDS pandemic. We will highlight successful faith-based youth programs and voluntary counseling and testing programs.
