Immune Response and Restoration: Where Are We Now; Where Are We Going?

PROGRAM OVERVIEW The use of HAART has revolutionized the management of HIV/AIDS and reduced the rates of mortality and morbidity resulting from HIV infection. Currently, one focus of scientists and researchers has been the determination of the process by which HAART can assist immune reconstitution. This meeting will bring together international experts to discuss the questions surrounding this issue. TARGET AUDIENCE Healthcare providers registered to attend the XIV International AIDS Conference in Barcelona, Spain. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to: * Identify the effects of HAART on immune reconstitution * Recognize the process utilized by the immune system to control HIV * Describe the role of T cells in the immunological response to HIV * Explain the clinical efficacy of interleukin-2 therapy on T-cell function * Distinguish between the various immunological approaches to HIV therapy ACCREDITATION The NYU Post-Graduate Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.
