THE GLOBAL WILLIAM H. ROEDY BUSINESS COUNCIL President, MTV Networks International ON HIV&AIDS Bill Roedy was appointed to the newly created position of President, MTV Networks International in June 2000, reporting to Tom Freston, Chairman & CEO, MTV Networks. In this position, Mr. Roedy oversees all of MTV Networks' growing international businesses and channel operations for the multi-media brands MTV, Nickelodeon and VH1. Based in London, Mr. Roedy is responsible for the overall vision, implementation and management of MTV Networks' multi-brand global business strategy. With operations that include 48 locally managed MTV, Nickelodeon and VH1 channels, MTV Networks International is the largest global network of localised channels and Web sites targeting kids, youth and adults. A dedicated music lover and true internationalist, Mr. Roedy was previously President, MTV/VH1 International and Chairman, MTV Networks Europe, where he was the key architect of MTV's successful localilation model emphasising decentralised business units. Under his leadership, MTV & VH1 International have launched and developed over 20 uniquely programmed music channels around the world, reaching an estimated one billion people. This, in turn, has made MTV one of the Top 10 recognised consumer brands in the world, the world's largest television network, a pop culture phenomenon and the #1 global music destination for youth on-air and online. Through his extensive travels and advocacy for social responsibility, Mr. Roedy became an Ambassador for UNAIDS in 1998. In addition to field visits to HIV/AIDS devastated areas in Africa and Asia, he leads MTV's global efforts to promote HIV & AIDS education, fight complacency and lessen the stigma attached to the disease. Besides airing HIV/AIDS-related programming globally, MTV International has produced award-winning original documentaries and public service announcements, making them available for air to all international broadcasters, at no cost. MTV International's HIV & AIDS awareness efforts were honoured with the Pedro Zamora Memorial Award for Youth Advocacy at the AIDS Action Leadership Foundation Awards 2000 in the US. Building on his personal commitment, Mr. Roedy recently became Chair of the Global Business Council on HIV and AIDS, which is dedicated to unifying businesses in the fight against HIV & AIDS. He is also a Board Member of Doctors of the World, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the American School in London and the International Advisory Board of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. -more
