BUSINESS CHALLENGED TO CONFRONT AIDS CRISIS

1. Media are invited to attend a Satellite Meeting Debate, Business and AIDS-- Doing
Enough?, at 8pm on Tuesday 11 July in Room ICII at the International Conference Centre.
Chaired by South Africa's Judge Edwin Cameron and including questions from the audience,
it will examine what business can do in the fight against AIDS. Panellists are: Bill Roedy,
GBC Chairman, Gabby Magomola, South African Business Council on HIV/AIDS, Dr
Anthony Pramualratana, Thailand Business Coalition on AIDS, and Dr Phestile Dlamini,
Minister of Health, Swaziland, and Liz Thebe, Eskom
2. The mission of the Global Business Council on HIV and AIDS is to expand and enhance
the business response to AIDS around the world. It was established in 1997 with Nelson
Mandela as Honorary President and Sir Richard Sykes of Glaxo Wellcome as Chairman. As
of today, James Wolfensohn, President of the World Bank becomes the Council's new
Honorary President, and Bill Roedy, President of MTV Networks International, becomes
Chairman.
