accountability.
Expenditure on field programs was 21% higher than in 1998.
The reason for this was the use of funds which had been
received and accounted for in previous years but which had
been allocated to use in future years. Further adding to the need
for field expenditure in 1999 were several disasters which
affected PLAN's working areas extensively; hurricanes Georges
and Mitch in the Caribbean and Central America, civil war in
Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau and the crisis in Kosovo, leading
to thousands of refugees fleeing to Albania, affecting PLAN's
communities.
CROISSANCE ET EXPANSION
Les recettes de PLAN ont progresse de 7%, ce qui porte ce
chiffre a 295 millions de dollars US. Ce resultat a ete obtenu en
depit des effets negatifs exerces en permanence par la force du
dollar US au cours de I'exercice 1999.
Les contributions des Parrains/Marraines ont genere 260 millions de dollars US, ce qui correspond a une augmentation de
4% par rapport a I'exercice precedent et a environ 88% des
recettes globales pour 1999. Les subventions et autres contributions, qui s'elvent a 30 millions de dollars US, ont egalement
augmente de 32%. Mais cet accroissement des recettes hors
parrainages n'affecte pas sensiblement la repartition proportionnelle des recettes, car les recettes provenant des subventions et
autres contributions representent 10% et celles provenant des
investissements 2%.
Le nombre de Filleul(le)s Parraines au cours de I'exercice 1999 a
augmente de 6% par rapport a 1998, atteignant le chiffre de
958.952.
