Membership will build a strong IAS in solidarity with people and countries affected by HIV/AIDS. By being a member, you will help the IAS to widen and develop its activities according to the IAS Purposes. A person can be a member of the IAS directly as an individual or through an affiliated society. Persons professionally engaged in activities related to HIV/AIDS may apply for membership. Please use the Application Form included. The membership term is from July 1 - June 30. (Bylaws can be obtained from the Secretariat or through the IAS Web Page). Member Benefits As a member, you will receive the IAS Newsletter three times a year, consisting of carefully selected articles by leading professionals within the scientific community and current information, debate, forthcoming events and updates to members. As a member, you will be able to subscribe to the IAS official journal, AIDS at a 15% discount. For members from a developing country (according to official listings as supplied by AIDS), a 50% discount is given. As a member, you will receive a Personal Identification Number (PIN) enabling you to access the IAS Membership Directory and Membership Section with various updates and information on the IAS Web Page. The IAS has more than 10,000 members (individual and affiliated) from more than 132 countries. How to become a member Use the application form attached to this brochure. Payment can be made by Credit Card or a Bankers Draft drawn on an American Bank (personal cheques cannot be cashed). The membership term is from JulyJune. The annual membership fee is US$ 30 per year. Affiliation IAS is a Federation of AIDS Societies. All national or regional societies that are eligible for affiliation may send their application (as specified in paragraph 5.2 of the IAS Bylaws) to the Secretariat: Article 5. Membership and Affiliation 5.1 The Federation consists of affiliated societies and of individual members. A person can be a member of IAS either directly as an individual or through an affiliated national or regional society. 5.2 National or regional societies, having stated purposes and membership similar to those of the IAS (Article 4 and 5) can apply for affiliation to the Federation. Affiliate status for national or regional societies requires approval by a majority of the Governing Council quorum. The affiliated status can be withdrawn for cause by a majority of the Governing Council quorum. All applications for affiliate membership must include the list of members of the society in order to be considered. Evidence of organisation and activity of the society should be supplied by the society applying for affiliation with IAS. A member society may resign at any time by filing its resignation with the President and the SecretaryGeneral but such resignation shall not exempt it from payment of dues for the year of membership. AFFILIATEDTOTHE INTERNATIONAL AIDS SOCIETY IAS INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF SOCIETIES This will build a strong IAS, which can contribute to controlling the pandemic and coping with the individual and societal consequences. The IAS has a budget turnover around US$ 500,000 (Conference budgets and Share budgets excluded) and endeayours to keep the costs down with a very small staff. Income is derived from annual membership fees (currently US$ 30 per year), the undesignated funds from a group of Preferred Sponsors and some funds generated from the biennial International AIDS Conferences. This income is used for:. maintenance of a continuous involvement (e.g. selection of host venues, fund-raising and planning) with upcoming and future International AIDS Conferences (including prefinancing of these events), * support of regional and other conferences, * development of SHARE: The IAS Educational Program on HIV Clinical Care and Prevention, * other activities of the Secretariat, * production of the IAS Newsletters, * maintenance of the membership register, Web Page and database,. provision of information to individual members and affiliated Societies, * development of short- and long-term initiatives, * liaison with other international organisations. The current cost for affiliation is related to the size of the national or regional society. Society with up to 200 members Annual fee of US$ 100 Society with 200-500 members Annual fee of US$ 200 Society with more than 500 members Annual fee of US$ 300 The affiliation to the IAS will give the society the right to include "Affiliated to the International AIDS Society" on their letterhead and official documents. For this purpose, a separate logo will be sent to those affiliated to the IAS.
