IAS INTERNATIONAL AIDS SOCIETY
OPERATING STRUCTURE AND OFFICERS

People professionally engaged in
HIV/AIDS from throughout the world
are encouraged to become members of
the IAS at the nominal cost of US $30
per year.
Members from each of five geographic
regions are asked to nominate five
members every second or fourth year to
serve terms of four years on the IAS
Governing Council. Elections are held
by mail ballot among members within
each region to determine who these
representatives will be. The President of
the IAS is then elected from among the
members of the Governing Council.
These five regions are North America,
Europe, Africa, Latin America/Caribbean,
and Asia and the Pacific.
The IAS has been fortunate in attracting
scientists who are world leaders in HIV
research, treatment and prevention to
serve on our Governing Council.

The IAS Governing Council has always
been a "Who is Who" in the AIDS world.
For instance, persons like Bob Gallo, Luc
Montagnier, Tony Fauci, and the late
Jonathan Mann have served terms on the
Council.

to the Governing Council
* Recommendations on activities and
new initiatives.
