POTENT TWO-DRUG COMBINATION OF CRIXIVAN + EFAVIRENZ
KEEPS HIV AT BAY FOR MORE THAN A YEAR, RESEARCHERS REPORT
Durable efficacy with fewer drugs and doses may improve adherence
Geneva, Switzerland, 28 June 1998 -- A new antiretroviral treatment
combining the durable protease inhibitor CRIXIVANTM* (indinavir) and efavirenz
is poised to become a powerful and more convenient new weapon in the fight
against HIV/AIDS.
Results from clinical trials of the new combination being presented this
week during the 12th World AIDS Conference reinforce the key position in HIV
therapy of CRIXIVAN, the world's most widely prescribed protease inhibitor.
International guidelines for treatment of HIV emphasise the importance of
powerful protease inhibitor-based combinations as the most effective way to
combat HIV infection by lowering virus levels to below detection as early as
possible in the course of HIV infection. HIV treatment specialists call this proven
strategy "hit hard, hit early."
