Meet the Expert Sessions Banquet Rooms A/B/C/D, Exhibition and Poster Hall, BC Place 11:30 - 12:30 Also taking place at BC Place, these small sessions on specific topics will allow delegates to interact with eminent scholars, field workers, and practitioners from a variety of disciplines. These sessions will be informal and highly geared to the discussion of practical issues. Space is limited on a first-come, first served basis. Oral Abstract Sessions VTCC and Waterfront Hotel 13:30 - 15:00; 15:30 - 17:00; 17:30 - 18:30 The main body of the XI International Conference on AIDS will be composed of speakers presenting peer-reviewed research to audiences.The information will be divided into four tracks with the three Pathways running throughout the tracks.Twelve sessions (three per track) will be presented at one time. Approximately six abstracts will be presented in each session. Questions from the audience will be facilitated by session chairs. Distinguished Lecturer Series VTCC and Waterfront Hotel 13:30- 15:00 The Conference has invited leading experts to share their views on the future challenges of HIV/AIDS. Delegates can choose to begin their afternoon at the VTCC by attending this lecture series offered by a variety of mentors of AIDS research and advocacy Roundtable Discussions VTCC and Waterfront Hotel 13:30 - 15:00; 15:30 - 17:00; 17:30 - 18:30 Roundtable discussions will allow a panel of experts to address specific topics from a variety of viewpoints (drawn from the four tracks and the three Pathways).Time in each session will be devoted to input and discussion from the audience. Chairpersons will facilitate this input. Debates VTCC and Waterfront Hotel 17:30- 18:30 The debate format is intended to help delegates understand some of the controversies surrounding AIDS. A formal statement will be presented to debaters on selected issues.They will be asked to argue for or against the resolution. Co-chairs will oversee the session. Skills Building Workshops Waterfront Hotel and VTCC 13:30- 17:00 Managers, trainers, programmers, volunteers and clinicians from developing countries are encouraged to participate in the Skills Building Workshops.These workshops will draw from the collective experiences of participants to identify new personal and group resources that will allow community-based organisations to meet their challenges. Each day, one session will be devoted to the theme of Innovative Training. Workshops will be co-facilitated by professional facilitators and experienced community-based practitioners. Sessions take place at both the VTCC and Waterfront Hotel. Space in these workshops is limited. Admittance is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register at the door Please Note: The Skills Building Workshops have evolved and changed considerably since the printing of the Advance Program. Please review the program information carefully before attending sessions. Information and Communications Technology LAB VTCC, Room 9 / 10:00 - 20:00 Professional trainers will run short, hands-on sessions designed to familiarise participants with basic communications technologies such as e-mail and web browsing. Managers of information technology projects from around the world will demonstrate their systems and discuss their experiences.The lab will also have first-come, first-served drop in time for those wishing to use a computer.The computer lab is equipped with 10 PC's. A detailed schedule will be posted each morning outside the lab. The lab is called the Matthew Lewis Computer Room in honour of this well-known advocate of the use of internet communications to disseminate treatment information and to link PLWH/As around the world via computers. Late Breaker Orals VTCC and Waterfront Hotel 15:30 - 17:00; 17:30 - 18:30 Because the Conference requires abstracts to be provided several months in advance, time will be reserved within the afternoon program at the VTCC to accommodate "late breaking" news of developments that have surfaced in the months immediately preceding the Conference. Only information of critical importance will be presented in these sessions. Late Breaker Posters BC Place Wednesday, July 10 9:30 - 16:00 A special area has been set aside in the Poster area on Wednesday, July 10 for late breaking information presented in the form of posters.
