Media [International Conference on AIDS (11th: 1996: Vancouver, Canada)]

XI XlInternational Conference on AIDS Vancouver July 7-12 1996 Nevertheless, the Organisers were able to raise the several million dollars necessary for the comprehensive Scholarship Program. Dr. Rekart applauded the role played by representatives from community-based organisations."Each of our eight advisory committees included representation from the community - in some cases, a majority of positions were occupied by community representatives." Organising Committee members pointed to several innovative changes to the Plenary Sessions of this year's Conference, including a daily debate in which prominent speakers will tackle controversial issues confronting the international HIV/AIDS community. And by incorporating the One World, One Hope Lecture Series in the body of the Plenary Sessions, Organisers have deliberately elected to highlight the positive achievements that have taken place in HIV/AIDS research, clinical testing, epidemiology and behavioral science since the last Conference in 1994. "We must constantly adapt to changing currents of thought. In selecting our Plenary Speakers - some of whom may not yet be universally recognized - we have made a strategic decision to introduce new faces in order to encourage those whose views are thought-provoking and who represent the cutting-edge of new research and ideas," said the Organising Committee. -30 -More information: Media Relations Office: Tel: 899-491 I
