Background on Conference Series
* Each year for the past 10 years, the international AIDS community has met to exchange information at an
international Conference which brings together 10,000 to 13,000 scientists, health care providers, persons
with HIV/AIDS, educators, politicians and public health workers. Beginning in 1994, the conferences
convene every two years.
* From 1985 to 1994, the International Conferences on AIDS were held in Atlanta, Paris, Washington,
Stockholm, Montreal, San Francisco, Florence, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Yokohama (1994) respectively.
The XI International Conference on AIDS
* The conference is being organised by the XI International Conference on AIDS Society, a non-profit,
charitable society set up by four local researchers: Dr Michael L. Rekart, Dr. Martin T. Schechter,
Dr. Michael V. O'Shaughnessy, and Dr. Julio SG Montaner.
* The theme of the Vancouver Conference is "One World, One Hope"
