General Motors Place is a multi-purpose, five level sports and0 entertainment arena, home to the Vancouver Canucks, Grizzlies and Voodoo. In order to take advantage of the existing services and facilities, the Media Centre is divided into four mainc areas which operate on several levels.These areas are: Print Work Area Level 5 Restaurant and Lounge Level 4 (Orca Bay Grille) News Conferences Arena Floor Broadcast Centre Level 0 The building is circular and has many points of access. Efforts have been made to keep movement within the building as simple as possible. Extensive signage and Media Relations Officers are located at all access points to assist you.The maps enclosed in this Guide will also help you easily find your way Print Work Area Level 5 Access via Gate 10 (North) or Gate 9 (Southwest) Print journalists may enter the Media Centre via either Gate 10 (North) nearest the shuttle bus depot and SkyTrain station or Gate 9 (Southwest), opposite the Exhibition and Poster Hall at BC Place Stadium. From the foyer of either gate, take the elevator to the fifth floor and follow the posted signs to the Print Work Area. (See page II for map). This area has approximately 300 undesignated positions for print journalists. Of these, 150 positions directly overlook the Plenary stage. The Print Work Area is staffed by volunteer Media Relations Officers who can assist in providing information and setting up interviews. A Conference Message Centre is located here and messages taken by phone or fax are put on bulletin boards. Additional services include photocopying, a fax machine and some lockers. Telephones are provided but long distance calls must be placed through an operator or by credit card. Westel Telecommunications Ltd has issued a special long-distance calling card commemorating the Conference.These are available in $10 (CAD) denominations and are on sale in the Delegates Services area of BC Place (Level 2). If exclusive use of a telephone is required, individuals or agencies must place their own line orders with General Motors Place.To order an exclusive telephone line please call 899 7535. To go from the Print Work Area to the seating area for Opening and Closing Ceremonies or Plenary Sessions, take the elevator to the first floor and follow the directions of Media Relations Officers.To reach the Orca Bay Grille from the Print Work Area, walk to the opposite (North) side of the building and descend by stairs or elevator to Level 4. Live coverage by the Host Broadcaster of the Plenary Sessions, News Conferences and some afternoon concurrent sessions (covering each of the four tracks) is carried on monitors in the Print Work Area.
