Use arabic numerals for all numbers except at the beginning of a sentence, where numbers should be spelled out. g. Use standard abbreviations and symbols, keeping them to a minimum, and defining each when used for the first time (you need not define AIDS, HIV, or STD.) h. Simple tables and graphs, neatly drawn in black ink, may be included if they fit within the allotted rectangle. i. In the bottom box in the blue rectangular area, type the name, address, and telephone and FAX numbers of the presenting author only. 5. Complete items 1-3 on the official Abstract Form. (These include presentation preference, track and category code, and signature.) 6. Carefully complete the Abstract Information Form, being sure to select between three (3) and six (6) words from the List of Key Words to be used for indexing your abstract. Indicate your selection by typing the code numbers that correspond to your key word choices. (See the List of Key Words on page xx for further instructions.) 7. Use the official orange envelope included with these materials to return all submissions. Do not transmit abstracts by telefax. We recommend using cardboard backing for overseas mailing. 8. Before mailing, review the checklist included with your Abstract Forms to ensure that your submission is correctly prepared. Abstract Review Process To assist the Conference Secretariat in sending written confirmation of receipt of your abstract, please be sure to fill out the Abstract Receipt Confirmation Card in the "Forms" section of this booklet. When this card is returned to you, it will include your abstract number. Abstracts will be evaluated by reviewers from around the world. Each thematic track is governed by a Track Committee composed of international experts in the field. Recommendations from each reviewer will be forwarded to the Track Committees, and final decisions will be made by a committee composed of the Track Co-chairs; the Conference Chair and Co-chairs; the Co-chairs for Science, Impact/Response, and STDs; a representative of the World Health Organization; and a representative of the International AIDS Society. Accepted abstracts will be assigned to oral presentations, poster sessions, or publication in the Abstract Volume on the basis of merit, subject matter, and number of abstracts received. Every effort will be made to place abstracts in appropriate categories. Presentation Authors whose abstracts are accepted will be expected to attend the Conference and present their papers in person. In general, those whose abstracts are accepted for oral presentation should prepare ten minute presentations, while those presenting posters will be assigned specific times to be with their posters to discuss their work. More complete instructions on how to prepare your presentation will be sent to you with the confirmation of acceptance. If you have not received these instructions by 15 May 1992, please contact CONGREX Holland BV at the address listed below. Abstract Volume Abstracts of all oral papers and posters to be presented at the Conference will be distributed to registrants in the Abstract Volume of the VIII International Conference on AIDS/Ill STD World Congress. The volume will also include abstracts which the Conference was unable to accept for presentation. In order to increase its usefulness to delegates, this year's Abstract Volume will include the name, ad dress, telephone number, and FAX number of the presenting author when such information is made available to CONGREX Holland BV. Additional copies of the Abstract Volume will be available for 145 Dutch Guilders each. Conference Registration Information Registration Fee Catagories To ensure the broadest possible representation at the VIII International Conference on AIDS/Ill STD World Congress, we have established six categories of delegate registration fees, scholarships, and sponsorships. Registrants in all six categories are entitled to admission to all sessions and exhibits, a final program, and one copy of the Abstract Volumes. Individuals eligible for more than one designation must choose one category in which to participate. Complete registration procedures for each delegate registration fee category are detailed in individual sections below. If you are submitting an abstract, you must register simultaneously.
