effective ways to prevent infection, particularly through perinatal transmission; develop communitybased, family-centered, coordinated services for infected infants and children; and develop programs to reduce the spread of infection to vulnerable populations. The MCHB also supports the Children with AIDS Newsletter, produced by the Foundation for Children with AIDS, Inc., to encourage networking on a national basis. Construction/Renovation Grants. This program was begun in FY '88 and is designed to meet the need for non-acute care facilities for persons with AIDS/HIV. Designated monies assist in renovation/construction projects for intermediate and/or long-term care facilities. Sub-Acute Care Demonstrations. Grants under this program support operating costs for sub-acute care facilities, including: hospice services, outpatient care, and outreach activities. HIV Services Planning Program. This one-year grant program helps low prevalence areas and states (with 100 to 400 AIDS cases) develop a coordinated strategy for health care and social services delivery to individuals with HIV infection. CDC/HRSA AIDS Demonstration Program.
